Verna Yahola is a Creek Indian woman who owns and runs the All Nations Café on Route 66 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, USA.
It’s a hot summer day in June 1977, and Verna’s friend Patty Jones – a famous Choctaw Indian country singer – has come to Sapulpa to tape the 10th anniversary of her television variety program. The bright lights attract characters like British punk rocker Danny Dacron, bingoobsessed Ojibway elder Etta Walters and Creek Indian DJ Clyde Chupco.
Twelve characters are vividly portrayed by Arigon Starr, who has also composed twelve original songs for The Red Road. Accompanying herself on acoustic guitar she performs, in character, a wide range of musical styles including country, bluegrass, rock and punk.
The Red Road is a celebration of everyday folks from Indian Country USA.
