Have you heard of a brave and wise goddess called Gamoonjang?
Jeju island lies in the Korea Strait. Because of the relative isolation of the island, the people of Jeju have developed a culture that is distinct from that of mainland Korea. Jeju is home to thousands of local legends – such as Gamoonjang.
In Gamoonjang Baby, two beggars have three girls. The third one, Gamoonjang, is kicked out by her father because of her belief that her womb gives power to her life. Gamoonjang stands alone, overcomes ordeals, cultivates sterile fields and makes a wonderful harvest all by herself.
Gamoonjang Baby introduces its audience to an authentic Korean traditional ritual world using songs and dances based on authentic Jeju island culture. This dynamic and energetic production celebrates the power of nature and a woman who finds the universe within herself.
