Sarah, Artistic Director, Project Director South Island NZ

Sarah trained at the University of Wales and Mountview Theatre School becoming a professional director in 2001. As the manager of the award winning Slough Young People's Centre (SPYC) until July 2006 Sarah produced and directed all of their multimedia productions alongside developing and sustaining innovative arts and cultural programmes including the hugely successful Afterhours Arts Academy.

Sarah founded Mess Up The Mess Theatre Company in 2005 to provide dynamic theatre making opportunities for young people, to increase opportunities for newly graduated theatre practioners and create an inclusive company for innovative theatre that reaches out to new audiences particularly the young. Productions of Winters Tales, Commonsensical and Threepenny Opera followed all engaging both professionals and young people in the development and performance stages leading to MUTM inclusion in pilot Creative Modern Apprentice schemes August 06.

Sarah relocated to New Zealand in January 2007 to work for MUTM leading the concept development and Artistic Direction of the New Zealand leg of 'Strangers International Youth Theatre project’. 'Strangers' is a collaboration between young people in Amman Valley-Wales, Slough-England and Nelson-New Zealand connecting globally to inspire each other on matters of heritage, identity and truth while exploring cultural landscapes leading to the creation and performance of an original multi-media production. Sarah has recently directed the Nelson Region production of the TIE play ‘Thirsty Thursday’ and is currently developing a new TIE script exploring safer partying issues alongside Nelson young people to be toured Spring 08. Sarah plans to return to the UK and continue working with MUTM in Autumn 09.
