Norifumi Hida

Norifumi is from Japan but currently resides in London to train as a Specialist in Drama and Theatre in Education. He received his BA from Tamagawa University in Tokyo where he studied Drama and Theatre in Education for the first time. He moved to London in 2004 and studies for his MFA in Theatre Directing at East 15 Acting School, University of Essex. After completing the course, he will start his Ph.D under Dr. Jonothan Neelands at the Institute of Education, University of Warwick.
Norifumi works with Box Clever Theatre Company as an Associate Trainee Director, and has just finished working with Unicorn Theatre as an Assistant Director for its new production 'Twin Stars' - a UK/Japan collaboration based on the story by Kenji Miyazawa for March 2008.
Norifumi often explores contemporary issues facing young people and seeks to introduce Japanese children’s literature to a wider audience within his productions. His most recent work is 'Night of the Milky Way Railroad' (Camden People’s Theatre, 2007). He adapted this famous Japanese story for British children and organised educational programmes to coincide with it.
His writings include: ‘British Theatre in Education today’ in Geki 5, Bansei: Tokyo (2007), ‘Studying D.I.E and T.I.E in London (No.1 - 5)’ in Assitej, Assitej Japan Centre: Tokyo (2006 - 2007), etc.
