Makhampom Theatre Group

Home > Congress > Makhampom Theatre Group

Based in Northern Thailand and Bangkok, Makhampom presents a diverse program of activity with young people and in a broader community focus. To complement the context of their theatre practice they have developed a style that combines Thai contemporary and traditional Thai performance styles with community cultural development techniques. These two workshops for teachers and practicing artists (performers, directors) offer an introduction to these practices and further insight into a distinctive Thai form.

Facilitated by Makhampom Creative Directors - Pradit Prasartthong, Duangjai Hirunsri and Richard Barber.

Let the Body Talk
An introduction to Makhampom’s intercultural physical performance style through a group devised process. Through a series of Makhampom’s physical theatre games and warm-up, participants will develop a collection of body shapes that, through group process, will be the basis of creating short performance.

Thai Gesture and Dance-Drama
An introduction to the basic Thai lakhon (dance drama) gestures and stylised dance-drama movements. From basic technique in communicating through gesture, participants will develop short participant-devised motifs, culminating in a small showcase of playful gesture-based story.
